Basics of Cooling Tower Design

Designing a cooling tower as per customer requirement is a tough task. There are certain parameters Hot Water Temperature (HWT), Cold Water Temperature (CWT), Wet Bulb Temperature (WBT), Water Flow Rate (L) are given by the customers. And, the Air Flow Rate (G) is chosen by the manufacturer. Once a designer has all these five datas, he can calculate the cooling tower characteristic through Merkel Equation.
which are given by the users. while some parameters are determined by the cooling tower designers. Factors like
  • The basic step of designing cooling tower is the generation of a demand curve.
  • The second step is to superimpose fill characteristics curves and demand curves.
  • The third step include the selection of design L/G and fill height.

Certain factors that effect the design of cooling equipment are cell dimensions, water loading, air velocities across the cooling tower sections, pressure drops and fan selection.

To have clear idea of cooling tower manufacturing and to learn some basic designing steps, one must contact cooling tower experts who are well-versed with the day-to-day technology. One may contact renowned manufacturers like CASE Group based in India.
