Misconception with Cooling Tower Water Requirement

It is mostly seen that a few cooling tower users suffer from 'more water syndrome'. The situation arises especially during summer season, when the temperature begin to rise on. End-user may feel the requirement of more water in order to maintain the temperature of the cooled process stream. As a result, additional water is often pumped over the tower. But, did you know the affect of using excessive water in cooling tower?

Due to addition of unwanted water, there can be a decrease in the cooling tower performance capabilities. The cold water temperature may rise high and may go to the exchanger in some cases. The overall situation may become worse and again, user may feel the demand for 'more water'. To control such a situation, one must take suggestion and help from expert.

Sometimes, when temperature-wise trouble occurs, less water is required rather than more water so as to bring the temperature normal.

Other troubling situation like increase in velocity through exchanger may occur. Such kind of cooling tower problems must be handled by well-trained operators. Else, owner of the tower might have to pay huge amount of money for his negligence.
