Removing Cooling Tower Fill Deposits

When it comes to maintaining an industrial cooling tower, the removal of scale deposits plays a vital role. Many of us might have a question in our mind, like, 'Why is it necessary to remove the cooling tower fill deposits?'

And, here is the right answer!

Fill deposits block the air passages and water stream. This results in the drop of effective surface area and thus, reduces the evaporation and the overall efficiency of the cooling tower. The principle of cooling tower is to maximize evaporation by which the remaining water is cooled down to the desired temperature. Scale deposits on the fills also results in pressure drop across the fill media resulting in higher power consumption for same air flows. Deposition on fill media reduces the life of the fill in case of HONEY COMB PVC, WOODEN Splash Bars etc.

Depending on the nature of deposition, the cooling tower technologists may suggest a corrective way to avoid such situation. In case, the deposition is a result of impurities such as mud, iron scale, dust etc., these can be taken care by setting up a simple water filtration system before the cooling tower inlet. For depositions which are caused because of scale formation (hardness of water), a state-of-the-art technology called SCALE BAN can be used to avoid and prevent such formations.
